New Utah Vaccine Law – Unvaccinated Students Will Be Expelled

Vaccine Nazis may not be big on rights but they are great at propaganda and using the law to eliminate individual choice. In fact, they have Constitution shredding down to an art. What they can’t achieve in massive assaults on personal rights, they attempt to achieve through baby steps.

Case in point, take a look at Utah. Fresh on the heels of passing a “free range parenting” law that explicitly states that children cannot be removed from the home or the parents arrested for allowing their children to play outside (yes, that law actually needed to be passed in 2018 America), Utah has also passed a law further encroaching on a parents’ rights not to vaccinate their child.

HB 308, signed into law in 2017 by Governor Gary Herbert, has changed the vaccine rules for Utah students. Beginning July 1, 2018, students who are not vaccinated will only be admitted into to school for 21 days on a conditional basis. After 21 days, the unvaccinated student will be expelled unless vaccinated or a valid exemption is presented.

Those parents who are looking to obtain an exemption will have to complete an “online education module” no doubt produced in the style of the 1950’s Red Scare telling them all about deadly pandemics hiding under every bed and Russian anti vaxxer bots working tirelessly to destroy the fabric of America. Parents who refuse will be required to have an “in-person consultation with a public health official.”

In other words, parents who choose to exercise their rights will be bullied and threatened into vaccinating their children. If parents still refuse, they will forced to sit through a re-education film. If they refuse further still, they will be confronted (the greatest fear of some) by an “official” aka an “authority.” All for exercising ones basic rights, parents will now be forced to sit in an interrogation room with an “authority figure” a la O’Brien out of George Orwell’s 1984. Depending on your region, your experience may range from Orwellian intimidation to comedic stupidity, and thus O’Brien may resemble the Postmaster General from Seinfeld more than the deviant genius of the Orwell book. But the general message is the same – vaccinate or you will have to come face to face with the “authorities” and explain yourself.


But while you are being re-educated by the “authority” figure, you might find it a great opportunity to ask just how something like health and healthcare went from being a service to an “authority” in the first place? 

Still, Utah Channel 4 news outlet (Good4Utah) quoted Granite School District lead nurse Cescilee Rall as stating, "Don't ever guess. Don't ever take it for granted your child will be OK without getting vaccinated. Really get the facts."

That’s right, Cescilee. Parents who don’t vaccinate are just guessers. And they are guessing with the lives of children and taking it for granted they will be ok! Parents aren’t informed. Parents aren’t capable of making good decisions. Parents are stupid. Parents need doctors and nurses to tell them how to raise their children. If parents believe vaccines may be harmful or unnecessary, they need to “get the facts.” From you. Because everyone knows parents have to ask for permission from the state when it comes to their children, at least in utopias such as these.

And that whole thing about parental rights and individual choice? That’s just Russian propaganda. Or it’s the gays and Muslims. I guess it just depends on what side of the aisle you’re on.

All kidding aside, Utah’s new rule change is nothing more than a slow encroachment upon parents’ rights to not vaccinate their children. While the encroachment is not as great as in other states, it is an encroachment nonetheless. Making concessions to authoritarians never works. Those who seek to dominate others, particularly when there is an agenda beyond the domination itself, see concessions as a sign of weakness and push harder toward their goal. Utah residents need to fight back against this assault on their rights now while they have a fighting chance before they end up like their peers in California.
