As both the rhetorical and military situation begins to heat up in Syria, Turkey and the NATO powers appear to be doing everything in their power to launch yet another direct invasion of a sovereign nation. In the shadow of U.S. airstrikes, Turkish shelling of Syrian positions, and the massing of Saudi “troops” and aircraft inside Turkey, the concept of a “no-fly zone” is once again being trotted out as a legitimate solution to the Syrian crisis.
Of course, a “No-Fly Zone” is nothing more than a cover for a direct NATO invasion of Syria, which has been the goal ever since it became clear that terrorist proxies were simply not enough to get the job done. While Syria has been turned into the world’s most visible conflict zone, the Western powers have failed in their goal of turning it into Libya 2.0 and the Russian involvement has effectively prevented them from merely bombing Assad into the Stone Age as was done to Ghaddaffi nearly 5 years ago.
Still, the calls for a “no fly zone” come from Western governments, the GCC, and the Western mainstream press despite the fact that ISIS has no air force, nor do any of the other terrorist groups and groupiscules operating in Syria today. Thus, it is clear that the real enemy here is the legitimate government of Bashar al-Assad.
For instance, Angela Merkel, the wretched German Chancellor, has already made renewed calls for a “No Fly Zone” in Syria on Tuesday and again in the German parliament on Wednesday. She preposterously suggested that such a zone could be created as the result of an agreement between the Syrian government, “opposition forces,” and ISIS as a “sign of good will.”
"In the current situation, it would be helpful if there was an area there in which none of the warring parties carry out attacks by air - so a type of no-fly zone," she added .
As is typical of Recep Tayip Erdogan, the Turkish President has also renewed calls for a “No Fly Zone” and has even taken to berating the United States for not joining in and implementing the zone immediately and in the face of the Russians no less.
Erdogan stated,
I have long spoken about the need to create a safety zone. And I now see that certain countries, which have not supported this idea, are now starting to agree with it … I am asking the United States: you did not approve of a no-fly zone, and now there are Russian planes [bombing Syria] and thousands of people are dying there, but it seems that we are a coalition and must act together? So what happened?
Erdogan has been calling for a “No Fly Zone” since 2011 and this statement was likewise made under the guise of “protecting civilians.” Such transparent attempts to justify a military and geopolitical policy (most likely dictated to Turkey via the controlling elements of NATO) are hardly digestible since Erdogan makes them as Turkey barrages YPG and Syrian military positions as well as civilian areas. Not only that, but such claims are being made by one of the principal nations involved in creating the humanitarian crisis to begin with, since it is Turkey that has helped arm, fund, direct, and facilitate the hordes of terrorists who have raped and beheaded their way across Syria into the country since the very start.
The United States has been open to the idea in the past and no doubt supports the proposition of a “No-Fly Zone” as a policy but the fact is that such a policy is much more difficult to implement when Russian bombers are flying over Syrian skies.
Russia, for its part, has been vocal in its opposition to the establishment of a “No-Fly Zone” over Syria.
Despite the potential for a real World War 3 scenario unfolding as a result of the “No-Fly Zone,” Germany is apparently prepared to send a proposal to create the zone to the United Nations and its relevant Working Groups in the very near future.
Of course, the establishment of a “No-Fly Zone” is tantamount to a declaration of war. Such has even been admitted by top U.S. Generals when explaining exactly what a No Fly Zone would entail. As General Carter Ham stated,
We should make no bones about it. It first entails killing a lot of people and destroying the Syrian air defenses and those people who are manning those systems. And then it entails destroying the Syrian air force, preferably on the ground, in the air if necessary. This is a violent combat action that results in lots of casualties and increased risk to our own personnel.
General Philip Breedlove also echoed this description when he said,
I know it sounds stark, but what I always tell people when they talk to me about a no-fly zone is . . . it’s basically to start a war with that country because you are going to have to go in and kinetically take out their air defense capability
Still, NATO, Turkey, the United States and the GCC continue to move forward with their plan to destroy the secular government of Syria and knock down one of the last pillars of resistance to the NATO imperialist aims, even as the potential for widespread mutual destruction remains in the balance.
The moral question aside, it is clear to the world that the responsible and wisest strategic move on the part of NATO would be to pull back and exercise restraint since it is clear by now that the Russians are asserting themselves in defense of Syria and their own strategic interests in a way that they did not in regards to Libya.
Indeed, the unipolar world now exists whether NATO desires it or not. It would be wise to work within those parameters and avoid a situation that eliminates all of the ill-gotten NATO gains.
A “No-Fly Zone” is only the prelude to direct military conflict in Syria. If that “No-Fly Zone” is created, we wish the Syrian people the same courage and resolve that has resisted the will of foreign empire for the last 5 years to continue their resistance. We also hope that Providence intercedes on their behalf. In the meantime, we maintain a staunch opposition to the creation of a “No-Fly Zone” in the first place.
